Philips TV’s ultra-competitive 800 OLED sets will seek to build on an outstanding 2020 by introducing further performance improvements in 2021 – including the 5th Gen P5 AI processing suite – designed to take what was already the market leading picture performance to new higher standards.

The 5th Gen P5 AI adds a new Film detection mode to the existing five AI categories and also incorporates the TV’s light sensor to ensure that contrast for SD or HDR content is always optimised to the ambient light levels.

In addition to HLG, HDR10 and HDR10+ compatibility, the 806/856 also support HDR10+ Adaptive which combines HDR10+ dynamic metadata with real-time ambient light information to allows automatically optimize brightness levels to the viewing environment on a scene-by-scene basis.

Key news for potential OLED customers is that the 2021 806/856 benefit from a version of Philips TV’s unique anti-burn technology designed to specifically protect OLED screens. The anti-burn-in solution uses an advanced logo detection function to monitor a grid of zones to accurately detect static content and gradually reduce the intensity of its local light output to avoid burn‐in – and without compromising the output of other parts of the screen.

Both the OLED806 and OLED856 share the same razor thin, zero bezel design with an outside metal frame that allows a seamless connection with the four-sided Ambilight to create a unique and totally immersive viewing experience.

The OLED806 design features metal dual tone finish ‘sticks’ feet while the OLED856 has an elegant narrow VA angle, wedge mount metal dark chrome T bar stand.

Both options offer minimalist profiles to give the impression that the sets are floating above the table-top.

The new OLED sets feature a high quality and powerful 50W 2.1 sound system with a dedicated triple ring, rear facing, bass driver supported by four passive radiators. The sets also offer DTS Play-Fi wireless connectivity for easy to use, high-resolution, multi-room audio.

Smart duties are handled by the latest Android 10 TV OS offering a new intuitive interface and both Google Assistant Built-in – via push to talk on the remote – and Works with Alexa compatibility.

Both sets also continue to offer a premium Remote Control with elegant, flush, backlit keys, in a metalized finish. For the ultimate luxury touch, the sides and rear of the Remote Control are wrapped in responsibly sourced leather from Scottish leather specialists Muirhead.
