AmbiScape, the new way to extend the Ambilight experience

AmbiScape extends the light

New AmbiScape feature extends the unique immersive experience of Ambilight further into the viewing room

The Ambilight system is one of the true success stories in the premium TV market with an amazing 35 million Ambilight TVs having already found happy owners, and with more than 80% of customers saying their next TV must have Ambilight – making the system one of the most popular consumer electronics technologies ever launched under the Philips brand.

Now TP Vision will acknowledge consumer opinion by extending Ambilight’s unique appeal with the introduction of the new AmbiScape feature that will allow selected Ambilight equipped Philips TVs to connect and control up to four smart bulbs – initially from brands including Wiz, NanoLeaf Philips Hue and Ikea – to extend the immersive experience further into the viewing room.

The Ambilight system integrates intelligent ambient lighting zones into the rear of the TV, with Ambilight projecting a continually changing halo of coloured light – precisely matching the colours of the on-screen image – on to the wall behind the set.

Ambilight was originally launched to help reduce eye strain, while giving a perceived increase in contrast, to consumers who were watching TV for extended periods in nearly totally dark rooms, but the increasing sophistication of the system allowed Philips Ambilight TV’s to accurately create an immersive effect that gives the impression of the on-screen image extending far beyond the edges of the set.

The new AmbiScape feature will extend the Ambilight effect even further into the room by allowing the Philips TV to control up to four external lights – initially E27 smart bulbs from the Wiz, NanoLeaf, Hue and Ikea ranges, but with more to follow – mirroring the performance of Ambilight with a latency of less than 0.5 second.

The AmbiScape feature was initially available as a trial, limited version, on a small number of 2025 models in the fourth quarter of last year, but in 2026, the full Philips TV series from the 8000 Series and above – including all of the 2026 OLED models and the new RGB Mini-LED 981 set – will feature AmbiScape.

AmbiScape can be easily activated via the remote control hot key or the Ambilight menu in the TV settings. Connection to the smart bulbs is also easy via an onscreen QR code giving a list of compatible devices, the lamps can then be added via a simple step-by-step guide. AmbiScape will also be added to the Philips Smart TV App.

Flexibility is built-in to the AmbiScape feature, up to four smart bulbs – from any combination of the four initial brands – can be added and the viewer can customise their system by indicating where in the room each lamp is placed, plus which Ambilight mode the system is to follow – video, music or a selected single colour.

The AmbiScape feature will also be available to extend the immersive effect of Philips Evnia gaming monitors.

Commenting on the launch of AmbiScape, Anette van Dijk, Head of Marketing Europe for Philips TV said: “We have been receiving a lot of feedback from Philips Ambilight TV customers that they would like any easy way to extend the immersive effect of the Ambilight system further into their room. The AmbiScape feature provides that solution but also allows the consumer the freedom to choose from a wider selection of compatible smart bulb brands. It is proof of how we continue to improve Ambilight to ensure the system remains the true distinctive feature in the premium TV market, and even after 20 years, continues to grow in popularity”.
