Philips 8602 TV to offer Ultra HD Premium performance in the 8000 series

Quantum Dot technology joins the P5 Perfect Picture processing engine and Ambilight to create a new performance standard for edge-lit LED TV

Berlin, August 31, 2017 – TP Vision has consistently proven its commitment to continuous innovation for the Philips TV brand. This philosophy has allowed Philips TV to play a leading role in the development of OLED technology with the 9000 series and will see a similar approach with the introduction of Quantum Dot technology to the 8000 series – with the launch of the new 8602 set.

Available in a 55” or 65” model the 8602 adds Quantum Dot technology to already high specification including the new P5 Perfect Picture engine and the three-sided Ambilight system to create a superb immersive performance previously unavailable in a 8000 series product.

The 8602 also carries the Philips hallmark best of European design, with an expressive use of real materials including a super-slim aluminium bezel and Visible Sound via cleverly integrated, front firing sound bar encased in European Kvadrat cloth.

Quantum Dot

Quantum dots are nano-sized crystals that are smaller than the 1/10,000 of the width of a single strand of human hair. But, while they maybe tiny, Quantum Dots have some exciting properties when it comes to the both the absorption and emission of light.

Depending on their size, each Quantum Dot will emit a different coloured light – red, green, or blue – when white light is shone on them. The additional light from the Quantum Dots boosts the overall output of the LED backlight, while also enhancing colour saturation and the viewing angle of the panel.

However great TV images need more than just high light outputs and good colour reproduction which is where the 8602 benefits from the new Philips P5 Perfect Picture Processing engine.

Quantum Dots meet P5

The new Philips P5 processing engine already delivers a 50% performance improvement over the previous – and still impressive – Perfect Pixel Ultra HD engine.

P5 has the power of five processors in one with the sheer processing scale necessary to easily handle the masses of data delivered within Ultra HD and 4K pictures. P5 analyses, deconstructs and individually addresses each of the five variables that define picture quality: Source perfection, Sharpness, Color, Contrast and Motion.

Much of the content that feeds our televisions contains annoying visual imperfections such as noise and artefacts. The P5 Source Perfection corrects these, reducing noise without introducing annoying blurring while eliminating banding by extending 8 bit video to near 14 bit precision.

Many content sources have a resolution that is just a fraction of the 4K quality that today’s screens are capable of displaying. The P5’s Perfect Sharpness Ultra Resolution Upscaling and Detail Enhancer transforming content into a sharper Ultra HD picture for a more refined image with noticeably more depth and dimension.

Color reproduction is also exceptional further improved by Philips’ P5 Perfect Color system featuring a 17-bit color booster and intelligent color processing For more intense, vivid colors and more natural skin tones.

Ambilight

Ambilight and Quantum Dot technology bring new levels of immersion to the 8000 series thanks to the ultra slim bezel allowing a more seamless connection with the on-screen images and the Spectra XL version of Ambilight precisely matching the additional colour vibrancy of the panel.

European Design & Visible Sound

The design of the 8602 once again demonstrates Philips commitment to outstanding European design and craftsmanship with a new expressive use of real materials, refined proportions and extremely tight dimensions and tolerances.

Exceptional Craftsmanship is further emphasized by integration of the ‘floating’ sound bar within the overall design of the set. Part of Philips Visible Sound concept, the sound system features two front firing drivers – mounted in the aluminum enclosure – giving clarity detail and presence to the mid and high range sounds while bass is handled by a rear firing Double Ring speaker – with an integrated bass port – to ensure deep and detailed bass performance.

For the final touch of sophistication the Soundbar is wrapped in high quality European Kvadrat speaker cloth.

Android TV

The 8602 is powered by Android TV system running M version of the OS and is certified by Google, giving access to all TV orientated apps, services, and content in the Google Play Store while also complementing the existing Philips Smart TV offering available in the Philips App Gallery. Effortless operation and fast navigation is possible thanks to powerful Quad Core processing and an advanced remote control with QWERTY keyboard, and speech recognition technology.
