Three countries, four blind shootouts – always the same result!
The combination of OLED & P5 processing leaves Philips TV unbeaten

Amsterdam, Monday November 25, 2019 – It’s happened twice in the UK, once in Germany and now The Netherlands. Ask an expert reader audience to blindly pick the best OLED TV and 69% pick Philips TV.

For the fourth time in a row, readers from specialist AV Titles – FWD Magazine and HomecinemaMagazine.nl in Belgium and the Netherlands – have voted Philips TV the winner of a special four manufacturer TV shoot-out featuring the best OLED sets all presented ‘blind’ to the audience to avoid any badge bias.

The shoot-out allowed the invited audience to directly compare the picture processing technologies of four of the major TV manufacturers. The four 65” sets used in the test included the Philips OLED804, the Sony AF9, the Panasonic GZ2000 and the LG C9. Once again, all four sets were carefully disguised so that none of the 25 readers were aware of which model they were voting for.

To further ensure a level playing field, the tests began with all four sets having been independently calibrated to the same standard by the expert editorial team from the FWD Media group – which effectively minimised the internal processing options and allows the base level technology differences between the brands to be directly compared.

Once again, a wide selection of content was used with ten clips each played twice from a media PC, or streamed live from Netflix or via 4Kblu-ray from an X-box.

The result from the calibrated section was a win for the Philips OLED804 scoring an impressive 38% with Sony second on 30%, LG third and Panasonic fourth.

Next the sets were switched into ‘vivid’ or ‘dynamic’ mode which was selected as the mode consistently used by each manufacturer to demonstrate the best performance of their full PQ processing suite – and the one that allows the most direct comparison between each manufacturer’s PQ processing technology.

The viewers were shown 12 clips, twice again, from a media PC, streamed live from Netflix and via 4K Blu-ray. The results in Vivid mode were more pronounced with 69% of the enthusiast audience voting for the Philips OLED804 followed by 15% for the Panasonic GZ2000 in second place.

Commenting on the test result, Philips TV Director Product Strategy & Planning Danny Tack said:

‘This is our fourth blind shoot-out, now run in three countries and I’m delighted that the results have been consistent across the events. We set-out to prove that the Philips P5 PQ processing was at least as good as the best available from our competitors. We have been very fair by holding the tests blind and with both calibrated and Vivid modes. The Philips OLED has won on each occasion with very consistent scores between each test and in both modes. I’m confident that we have proven that with the 3rd Generation of P5 we now have the best TV PQ processing in the market’.
