• Jury recognises a new TV concept
• Philips DesignLine moves away from current TV product design language
• Philips DesignLine features a seamless, gradient black sheet of glass that hides the screen in off-mode

Amsterdam, 23rd October, 2013 – The uniquely designed Philips DesignLine 3D Smart TV has won the Dutch Design Award 2013 for the best consumer product. The award was received by Rod White and Frank Rettenbacher, both designers at TP Vision, in Eindhoven last weekend.

“In March, when we introduced the DesignLine, we hoped that we’d created a ‘design icon’. This has now been confirmed by the award,” said Frank Rettenbacher, Senior Lead Product Designer of Philips DesignLine. “This TV without a neck, without a stand and without a visible frame – which looks at first sight like a sheet of glass casually leaning against the wall – breaks with traditional TV design language. We are very pleased that we have now received recognition for this approach.”

Rod White, Senior Creative Director at TP Vision, continued: “The jury recognised the courage we showed with our design solution and even spoke of ‘a new concept of the television’. First and foremost, the jury was impressed by how such a fragile device could accommodate all technical equipment in a virtually invisible way.”

The Dutch Design Awards are part of the Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven. The presentation of the Dutch Design Awards 2013 took place on Saturday at the Bell Centre in Eindhoven. The Philips DesignLine was one of the three finalists in the category consumer product.
