Berlin, August 30, 2018 – The new Philips OLED 803 follows the success of the previous Philips 9002 OLED set granted more than 53 awards across all European media – for outstanding PQ performance. Incredibly, the OLED 803 manages to offer a clear and distinct improvement in both picture and sound quality over its predecessor, a fact already recognised by the TV winning the prestigious EISA Award for Best Buy OLED TV 2018.

The new set enjoys the benefits of the latest OLED technology working in combination with a new 2nd generation version of Philips P5 Perfect Processing Engine and the unique three-sided Ambilight system, to create a flagship product that offers a new reference for outright TV picture quality.

New OLED technology includes the latest 2018 OLED panel, which features a new and improved shape to its subpixels and a new anti-reflective coating to allow the OLED803 to offer both better black reproduction and a 10% increase in light output to a new peak of 1000 Nits – when compared to 2017 sets.

High peak light output and OLED’s traditional infinite black level performance provide truly exceptional contrast and are key to unlocking the full potential of HDR content. TP Vision has also become the third manufacturer to join the HDR10+ alliance and the OLED 803 is one of Philips’ first sets to offer HDR+ performance

High Dynamic Range (HDR10 or HLG) allows sets to display content with higher contrast thanks to both darker blacks and brighter whites, it also allows greater brightness levels and a wider colour palette.

The new HDR10+ version is backwards compatible with HDR10 but adds dynamic metadata to allow contrast and colour to be dynamically optimized for each and every frame.

HDR10+ allows a more faithful reproduction of the original content with no loss of detail, particularly in shadow areas, and with no clipping of peak highlights.

However, for the foreseeable future, the vast majority of content viewed is likely to remain SDR rather than HDR, the rationale behind Philips development of a new exclusive technology: Perfect Natural Reality.

The 2nd Generation P5 chip includes the new Perfect Natural Reality contrast enhancing technology which uses a new advanced intelligent contrast algorithm in combination with the P5’s existing local and global contrast enhancement systems.

Perfect Natural Reality continually calculates how to increase source quality, brightness, sharpness and contrast performance to give SDR content the same quality and impact as HDR content.

The system successfully reveals the fine detail lost on competitor sets – even OLED models – and creates far more realistic images with greater depth impression.

Sound quality has also been vastly improved to match the new levels of PQ. The long-throw, rear triple ring woofer is larger and is now supported by two passive radiators for deep, powerful but accurate bass.

The down-firing, combined high & mid-range driver has been replaced by the combination of a larger dedicated mid-range driver with a separate soft dome tweeter for better stereo separation, detail and accuracy plus lower distortion.

Powered by the Android TV TM operating system, the set features an ultra-fast quad core processor and 16GB of expandable onboard memory. It will launch on Android N version of the OS and in near future will receive a software upgrade to Android O with a new UI and Google Assistant Built-in functionality allowing users to control their smart home devices via microphone of the TVs remote control. On top of that newly developed skill for Amazon Alexa will allow owners of Alexa enabled devices to control Philips Android TVs.

The 803 features a new minimalist design, with super-narrow bezel in a brushed metallic finish complemented by two narrow, horizontal metal feet set at right angles to the screen.

A razor thin chassis also allows a near seamless connection to the three-sided Ambilight technology, with the immersive viewing experience reaching new heights thanks to the TV’s exceptional color vibrancy and huge contrast ratio.
